Mr Zeev Snir, Head, Israel Atomic Energy Commission, and Mr Dazhu Yang, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, signed Israel’s Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2018–2023 on 18 September 2017. A CPF is the frame of reference for the medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA and identifies priority areas where the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed to support national development goals.
Israel was a founding member of the International Atomic Energy Agency and joined the Agency on 12 July 1957. Its 2018–2023 CPF identifies a number of priority areas including:
- Health – Continued Quality Assurance in Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy as well as Improvement of Methods for Diagnostic Imaging;
- Agriculture – Pre-harvest and post-harvest technologies;
- Human Resources Development in the Nuclear Domain – Improvement in capabilities including decommissioning and waste management and Nuclear Power Siting, nuclear science, engineering and safety;
- Strengthening occupational radiation protection in the nuclear industry and other applications involving ionizing radiation. Strengthening education and training in the field of radiation and nuclear safety.
