News Briefing on International Experts' Meeting on Reactor and Spent Fuel Safety

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been hosting a four-day International Experts' Meeting on Reactor and Spent Fuel Safety in the Light of the Accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant from 19 to 22 March to provide a forum for discussions and exchange of information among technical experts from Member States on reactor and spent nuclear fuel safety and performance under severe conditions. The meeting is an important component of the IAEA's Nuclear Safety Action Plan.

IAEA-Iran Discussions in Tehran, 29-31 January 2012

Meetings between the IAEA and Iran were held in Tehran from 29 to 31 January 2012, aimed at resolving all outstanding substantive issues. Another meeting will take place in Tehran from 20 to 21 February 2012.

The IAEA explained its concerns and identified its priorities, which focus on the clarification of possible military dimensions to Iran's nuclear programme.

The IAEA also discussed with Iran the topics and initial steps to be taken, as well as associated modalities.

Press Briefing on Nuclear Infrastructure Development

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is hosting an annual workshop for nations considering and planning nuclear power programs. The workshop, meeting on 24-27 January in the Vienna International Centre, is intended to create an opportunity for exchanging information on managing the development of a sustainable national infrastructure for nuclear power plants.

The workshop sessions are closed to the media, but the IAEA will offer a press briefing on the final day, 27 January, at 14:30 in Room MOE75 of the VIC.

Joint IAEA/IEA Seminar on World Energy Outlook 2011 - Role of Nuclear Power, 24 November 2011

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will host a joint seminar with the International Energy Agency (IEA) on the annual 2011 update of the IEA's World Energy Outlook. The seminar will be held on 24 November 2011 from 10:00 to 11:30 (CET) in room NO on the 1st floor of the Austria Centre Vienna (ACV). Journalists are encouraged to enter through the Austria Centre, although access from the Vienna International Centre will also be possible.

The Seminar is open to all media, including cameras.

Press Arrangements for IAEA Forum on Nuclear-Weapons-Free Zone for Middle East, 21-22 November

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will host a Forum of its Member States to consider how the experience of Nuclear-Weapons-Free Zones (NWFZ) in several regions of the world could be relevant to the Middle East. The meeting will begin at 10:00 (CET) on 21 November and is scheduled to end at 13:00 (CET) on 22 November. The Forum will convene in Room M2/M3 of the M Building in the Vienna International Centre (VIC).

IAEA Exhibition: An Ocean of Knowledge

Celebrating 50 years of accomplishments in the use of nuclear and isotopic techniques to enhance our understanding of oceanic processes, marine ecosystems and pollution impact.

The IAEA Liaison Office in Geneva is organizing an exhibition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the IAEA Environment Laboratories in Monaco. The exhibition will take place at the Palais des Nations from 10 to 25 November 2011. Experts from the Monaco Laboratories will be in Geneva from 10 to 14 November to explain the work conducted at the laboratories.

IAEA International Team to Discuss Preliminary Findings of Environmental Remediation Mission

Officials from an IAEA international expert mission visiting Japan will hold a briefing for journalists to discuss their mission's preliminary findings. The mission arrived in Japan on 7 October to help the country develop its environmental remediation plans following the 11 March earthquake and tsunami that damaged TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

The briefing, expected to last one hour, will begin at 18:00 local Japan time on Friday, 14 October 2011, at Japan's Foreign Press Center - 6F Nippon Press Center Building, 2-2-1, Uchisaiwaicho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan.
