World Meteorological Organization (WMO)

The IAEA and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) have been cooperating since 1960 with the initiation of the Global Network for Isotopes in Precipitation (GNIP). In addition to this longstanding cooperation,  since 2022 they have been working together on a project to help countries increase their capacity to perform high-quality stable isotope analysis and generate data for determining the origin of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The data generated enables scientists to provide decision-makers with tools and know-how necessary to take meaningful actions to effectively reduce GHG in their countries.

The WMO is a specialized agency of the United Nations. It is the UN system's authoritative voice on the state and behaviour of the Earth's atmosphere, its interaction with the land and oceans, the weather and climate it produces and the resulting distribution of water resources.
