Description

This webinar will feature conversations with international young professionals who are vocal on the global climate crisis and exploring different solutions to it, including the role of nuclear energy. IAEA experts taking part in this event will provide snapshot presentations introducing its key topics. The webinar will consist of three parts on the following topics:

  1. Moving away from coal: the nuclear energy option.
  2. Driving energy systems to net zero with nuclear, renewables and hydrogen.
  3. Energy policy, financing, and sustainable development.

The webinar will conclude with a wrap-up discussion with the young experts. The dynamic conversations between the IAEA and young external experts during the event will highlight different approaches on the pathways to net zero energy systems and will look at existing challenges from different perspectives. These discussions will allow young professionals to express their opinions on existing and proposed economic, policy and technology frameworks on energy transition, as the youth of today are the established professionals and decision-makers of tomorrow.

The objectives of this webinar are to:

  • Discuss the pathways to decarbonization, including increased shares of renewables, nuclear and hydrogen in energy systems; replacement of coal by nuclear generation; and designing energy policy and finance mechanisms to accelerate the introduction of low-carbon energy sources for a Net Zero World.
  • Engage young professionals in the discussion on the global energy transition with the use of low-carbon energy options, including nuclear.
  • Launch a new IAEA initiative focusing on young professionals organized on the occasion of the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, UK.
