IAEA Challenge: Decommissioning and Environmental Remediation 2020

Keeping Our Planet Safe and Clean

The IAEA is inviting young professionals to come up with an original concept or project outline for advancing the decommissioning of nuclear facilities or environmental remediation of contaminated sites.

Amid a growing need for decommissioning and environmental remediation activities worldwide, the Challenge aims to encourage innovation in design and operations to achieve cost-effective and efficient implementation of smart solutions. It will also highlight the attractive opportunities and career prospects available to young people in this exciting field.

The Challenge

Submissions can be technical or non-technical concepts, novel applications, or prototype techniques in testing phase. They can be developed in the area of innovative technologies or methods, information and knowledge management, or human resource development.

Eligible participants are young professionals aged below 35. Submissions can be made by individuals or teams with major contribution by young professionals. The winners will be invited to present their entries at an event during the 64th Annual Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference, taking place from 21 to 25 September 2020 in Vienna, Austria.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is 31 May 2020. A committee of international experts convened by the IAEA will evaluate the proposals. Please provide the abstract within the template which can be found here.
