Climate Change Internships

The IAEA accepts a limited number of interns each year, providing students and recent graduates with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their educational background and interests, and exposing them to the work of the Agency. The internship programme benefits the IAEA and its programmatic work by obtaining the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.

During the IAEA Youth Event at COP26 in Glasgow, Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi highlighted the important role of the young generation in the fight against climate change and announced that the Agency will offer 5 internship opportunities related to the climate change topic in 2022, as one concrete action in supporting the young generation to be engaged in the climate change discussion.

This internship initiative will offer young students and professionals a valuable opportunity to work in different departments to gain knowledge on the indispensable role of nuclear technologies in addressing climate change. The climate change interns will also be able to obtain relevant practical experiences by being involved in the programmatic activities of the IAEA related to climate change, contributing to the Agency’s preparation for the coming COP 27 and engaging with youth groups.

The IAEA is looking for applicants from different backgrounds and walks of life, including environmental scientists, hydrologists, engineers, political and international scientists, economists, experts in finance, communication, journalists, and any other related fields. Applicants who do not have any background or experience in nuclear energy, science and technologies are encouraged to apply!

In 2022, the IAEA will select 5 climate change interns, taking into account regional representation and gender balance.
