Isotopic methods provide cost-effective and powerful, precise tools to identify hydrological linkages and interactions among rivers and regional aquifers. This information is central in formulating resource water management decisions, especially when these concern transboundary rivers and aquifers. Natural stable and radioactive isotope tracers, combined with conventional hydrological approaches, help to inform the adoption of such long-term decisions.
