The growing sophistication, availability, and adaptability of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have made them both an emerging capability and threat for nuclear security. From personal recreation to military applications, modern UAVs come in a wide range of sizes, shapes, cost, and capabilities for which greater understanding and assessment are needed for both the potential use of, and countermeasures against, UAVs to support Member States’ nuclear security programmes.
The webinar’s focus will be on introducing topics related to the use of UAVs for radiation detection and surveillance, including piloting, detection and surveillance capabilities, operational impact, and legal or regulatory needs and challenges. The discussions will help to identify topics and interested participants for the Technical Meeting on the Use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for Radiation Detection and Surveillance tentatively scheduled for June 2022 in Brno, Czech Republic.
This webinar will be offered on Tuesday 25 January 2022 and on Wednesday 26 January 2022. The content will be the same on both days, with the exception that the webinar on the 26 January will be translated into Spanish.
The webinar’s objective is to provide an overview of potential UAV use cases, capabilities, and specifications for radiation detection and surveillance.
