Teaching Case

Case presentation:

  • Male.
  • 3 week old.
  • High fever and severely ill when admitted.
  • Normal pregnancy. -Blood sample: INcreased PCR, leukocytosis, increased creatinine level.
  • US: decrease size of the left kidney.

Teaching points:

  • The LK dysplasia has been missed by the routine prenatal US, performed in this case by the gynaecologist.
  • It is advisable that a specialized radiologist perform the 20 weeks US during pregnancy.
  • DMSA detects tubular dysfunction.
  • Transitory renal impairment can be due to bilateral neonatal APN .
