Teaching Case

Case presentation:

  • Male.
  • 7 y.o.
  • Fever.
  • Positive urine culture.
  • Normal B-mode ultrasound.
  • Power-Doppler US: decreased vascular signal in the right upper pole.
  • DMSA scan.

Teaching points:

  • Normal B-mode ultrasound cannot rule out renal damage.
  • DRC: higher sensitivity than VCUG and than IRC.
  • Normal IRC cannot rule out reflux.
  • Repeated APN, with high incidence os renal cortical scars, are not rare.
