Dizdarevic, Sabina

Professor Sabina Dizdarevic has been the Principal Lead Consultant in Imaging and Nuclear Medicine since 2014, as well as the Lead Nuclear Medicine Consultant since 2003, at the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUHT), United Kingdom. She is also the Honorary Clinical Professor at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS), University of Sussex and Brighton and PET-CT Lead at the Clinical Imaging Science Centre, BSMS. Professor Dizdarevic was responsible for introducing several diagnostic imaging and therapeutic nuclear medicine services and setting up the molecular radiotherapy and PET-CT service in the Sussex, UK.

Prior to her time at BSUHT and BSMS, Professor Dizdarevic had several senior appointments, namely Honorary Clinical Reader at BSMS, Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, King’s College London, Henri Becquerel Fellow at Great Ormond Street Hospital, Institute of Child Health and International Atomic Energy Agency Fellow at Institute of Nuclear Medicine, University College London, Head of Diagnostic Nuclear Medicine and Consultant Physician at University Clinical Centre Sarajevo and Senior Lecturer at University Clinical Centre Sarajevo, B&H.

She is Scientific Chair, Co-Chair and Research Lead of the Scientific Education Committee of the British Nuclear Medicine Society. Additionally, she is the Chair of Intercollegiate Standing Committee for Nuclear Medicine for Royal College of Physicians and Royal College of Radiologists. Professor Dizdarevic has recently been appointed to the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Imaging Champion for Sussex, Kent and Surrey. Furthermore, together with members of the WARMTH Thyroid Group, she was the lead for a published position statement for WARMTH.

Professor Dizdarevic is an external examiner to King’s College London MSc programme and a member of the national Nuclear Medicine (NM) Specialist Advisory Committee. Furthermore, she is the UK national delegate to the European Association of Medical Specialties/Nuclear Medicine Board (EANM/UEMS).

Professor Dizdarevic has a wide range of peer-reviewed publications on her specialist subjects in nuclear medicine, contributed seven book chapters, and frequently participates as a speaker and invited presenter at conferences all over the world. She has obtained an MSc in Nuclear Medicine from University College London and her PhD degree from the University of Sussex and Brighton. Her research interest is in novel clinical investigations using radionuclides, including radionuclide theragnostic strategies in oncology (particularly thyroid and prostate cancers) and neuroscience and molecular imaging biomarkers in nuclear medicine and multimodality functional molecular imaging of ABC transporter proteins. She is actively involved in numerous prospective research trials, locally and internationally as a chief investigator, principal investigator, lead clinical radiation expert or ARSAC certificate holder, currently conducting and supporting 150 research projects.
