IAEA Nuclear Security Training and Demonstration Centre

The IAEA Nuclear Security Training and Demonstration Centre (NSTDC) is the world’s first international training centre dedicated to enhancing global nuclear security. Through practical, hands-on training in critical areas such as the physical protection of nuclear facilities, nuclear forensics, and cybersecurity, the Centre helps strengthen countries’ abilities to tackle nuclear terrorism, address unique challenges and implement complex projects in the area of nuclear security.

The NSTDC is the world’s first international nuclear security training centre. It will unlock training opportunities for thousands of experts and enable the IAEA to respond effectively to its Member States’ increasing need for technically sophisticated nuclear security training that complements their national activities.
Rafael Mariano Grossi, IAEA Director General

While the IAEA has for decades supported countries in strengthening their nuclear security regimes by conducting missions, trainings and exercises, the establishment of the NSTDC further enhances the assistance provided to countries to help them address unique challenges and implement complex projects in nuclear security which require specialized technical infrastructure and equipment. The NSTDC trainings complement existing national and international mechanisms for capacity building in nuclear security and specifically tackle areas not previously addressed by the IAEA.

The NSTDC is located in the new Multi-Purpose Building (MPB) at the IAEA’s Seibersdorf laboratories, 30 km south of Vienna and was inaugurated on 3 October 2023.
