SMR Platform Activity: Reactor Technology Assessment Using the ARIS Database

A key challenge for Member States interested in the deployment of small modular reactors (SMRs) is the identification and assessment of suitable technology options to meet their national objectives. The IAEA Platform on Small Modular Reactors and their Applications is the focal point for the Agency’s activities on SMRs and their applications, and one of the tools offered to Member States is Nuclear Reactor Technology Assessment (RTA) methodology. This event will demonstrate how to perform SMR assessment using the RTA methodology, and the Advanced Reactors Information System (ARIS) database. Read more.

This event will be held on Tuesday, 26 September 2023, from 4.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. in Conference Room CR2, C Building, seventh floor.

The IAEA NHSI for Effective Global Deployment of Safe and Secure Advanced Nuclear Reactors

More than a year after the establishment of the Nuclear Harmonization and Standardization Initiative (NHSI), this event will provide information on the goals and progress made by the regulatory and industry tracks and discuss the way forward. Read more.

This event will be held on Wednesday, 27 September 2023, from 2.00 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. in Conference Room CR4, C Building, seventh floor.

Atoms4NetZero: Assessing the Role of Nuclear Power and Developing Climate Mitigation Scenarios Through the IAEA’s Energy Modelling Tools

This event will discuss the modelling of energy transition scenarios that address both climate change mitigation targets, including net zero objectives, and the broader context of sustainable development. The Atoms4NetZero initiative, launched by the Director General at COP27, provides a framework for supporting Member States in capacity building in energy planning, to address the challenge of developing pathways towards net zero energy systems. The MESSAGE tool, part of the IAEA energy planning suite, and other assessment tools can be used for this purpose. At the event, there will be insights from experts from Member States, Atoms4NetZero partners and the IAEA. Read more.

This event will be held on Monday, 25 September 2023, from 4.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. in Conference Room CR3, C Building, seventh floor.
