NEW CRP: Imaging Technologies for Process Investigations and Components Testing (F22069)

New Coordinated Research Project
,

This proposal is the result of a Consultant Meeting held from 3-7 October 2016 at IAEA headquarters in Vienna with participants from Australia, China, France and Republic of Korea.

Imaging technologies have been developed for Non-destructive Testing, Homeland Security and Process Investigation with varying degrees of performance, advantages and disadvantages, using different radiation sources (radiotracers, gamma sources, X-ray generators, accelerators, neutrons generators), imaging systems and software.

CRP Overall objective

The overall objective of the CRP is to facilitate further advancement and implementation of imaging nuclear technologies in industries and to develop a synergetic approach to imaging technologies coming from different fields.  Different topics should be addressed such as the production of radiotracer based on neutrons generator, neutron imaging, new detectors and imaging systems, software, and a multimodal approach using different radiations simultaneously. Specific, targets to be addressed will include safety, cost, and availability of nuclear technologies, as well as knowledge transfer with a particular focus on developing Member States.

Specific objectives will include:

  • To facilitate further development of imaging techniques based on radiation for use in process investigation and specific objects flaw detection;
  • To encourage development of new imaging systems to address new raising needs;
  • To facilitate further development and implementation of radiotracing imaging techniques, especially the production of radiotracers using neutrons generator;
  • To facilitate development of multi-radiation (X ray + neutrons for ex) integrated techniques for improved monitoring of complex multiphase/multicomponent systems.

How to join the CRP?

Please submit your Proposal for Research Contract or Agreement by 8 September 2017 directly to the IAEA’s Research Contracts Administration Section, using the form templates on the CRA pages (preferably via email). For further information related to this CRP, potential applicants could contact Mr Patrick BRISSET, Project Officer, Radioisotopes Products and Radiation Technologies Section, Division of Chemical and Physical Sciences, Department of Nuclear Science and Applications, IAEA.
