The first coordination meeting of a recently-launched technical cooperation project, entitled “Taking Strategic Actions to Strengthen Capacities in the Diagnostics and Treatment of Cancer with a Comprehensive Approach,” is currently taking place at IAEA Headquarters in Vienna, Austria. This project is being implemented through the Co-operation Agreement for the Promotion of Nuclear Science and Technology in Latin America and the Caribbean (ARCAL).
The meeting, which brings together representatives of 17 countries in the region, has been organized to coordinate actions and to discuss strategies to achieve the objectives of the new project. The President of the Spanish Board of Medical Doctors, Dr. Juan José Rodriguez Sendin, and Dr. Juan Martinez, Director of the Foundation for Research, Training and Professional Competency of the Medical Doctors, are also participating in the meeting.
The meeting was inaugurated by HE Gonzalo de Salazar Serantes, Ambassador of Spain, and the director of the Technical Cooperation Division for Latin America and the Caribbean, Mr. Luis Longoria.
In October 2015, the IAEA and the Spanish Medical Colleges Organization signed a Practical Arrangement for collaboration with the Latin-American and the Caribbean region in human health.
