June Meeting of Board of Governors Concludes

On 4 June 2014, the IAEA Board of Governors concluded its third meeting of the year at the Agency's headquarters in Vienna, Austria.

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano opened the meeting on 2 June 2014 with an introductory statement. A Press Conference was also held on the same day. The full text of the statement can be accessed here and the Press Conference viewed here.

The 35-nation Board discussed a number of issues, including: strengthening of the Agency's technical cooperation activities, the Technical Cooperation Report for 2013, the Report of the Programme and Budget Committee, the Safeguards Implementation Report for 2013 and the Annual Report for 2013. Safeguards implementation in Iran, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Syria were also on the agenda.

The Board recommended accepting applications for membership of the Agency by the Republic of Djibouti and the Union of the Comoros.

Board discussions took place on the application of safeguards in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea as well as the implementation of the NPT safeguard agreements in the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Syrian Arab Republic, respectively.

The next IAEA Board of Governors meeting will be held from 15 to 19 September 2014.
