Iraq Signs Its Country Programme Framework (CPF) for 2024-2029

HE Mr Naeem Abed Yasir, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Head of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission, and Mr Hua Liu, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, signed Iraq’s Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2024–2029 on 17 September 2024. A CPF is the frame of reference for the medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA and identifies priority areas where the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed to support national development goals.  

Iraq has been an IAEA Member State since 1959. Its 2024–2029 CPF identifies six priority areas: 

  1. Nuclear and Radiation Safety and Nuclear Security 
  2. Food and Agriculture  
  3. Human Health and Nutrition 
  4. Water Resources and Environment 
  5. Energy and Industry 
  6. Strengthening the National Capacity in Nuclear Science and Technology
