Exploring Regional and Trans-boundary Energy Issues

Under the framework of the Technical Cooperation Project RER/2/007: Enhancing Nuclear Power Infrastructures for Countries Considering, Developing or Expanding Nuclear Power Programmes, a workshop entitled Regional and Trans-boundary Energy Issues and Cooperation in Nuclear Power Programmes was held from 24-27 September 2013 in Skopje, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

Based on the request of several countries in south eastern European countries, the workshop was organized to emphasize sub-regional and trans-boundary aspects of embarking on nuclear power.  The Vice-Prime Minister of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Mr Vladimir Pesevski, gave the opening address.

The workshop participants agreed that the discussion on regional cooperation in Europe concerning nuclear energy development was extremely valuable and should continue.

There are several sub-regions of Europe in which prospective development of nuclear power would have significant trans-boundary impacts and therefore a platform for cooperation and discussion is needed. Romania offered to host the next meeting in 2014.
