China Signs a Country Programme Framework (CPF) for 2016-2021

During a courtesy visit with the IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano, Mr Lixin Shen, Deputy Director General, Department of System Engineering, China Atomic Energy Authority, and Mr Dazhu Yang, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, signed China’s Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2016-2021 on 26 September 2016. 

A CPF is the frame of reference for the medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA and identifies priority areas where the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed to support national development goals.

China has been an IAEA Member State since 1984. Its 2016-2021 CPF identifies 10 priority areas:

  1. Nuclear power development
  2. Nuclear fuel cycle
  3. Nuclear and radiation safety
  4. Food and agriculture
  5. Industry
  6. Water resources management
  7. Human health
  8. Environment and public safety
  9. Nuclear security and nuclear safeguards
  10. Human capacity building and general support
