Building Capacities in Advanced Non-Destructive Evaluation Technologies in the Asia and Pacific region

group

For more than 40 years non-destructive testing (NDT) technology has become an essential part of quality assurance in the construction and fabrication of critical plants and equipment for key industries, and in many countries, quality assurance through non-destructive testing and examination is a mandatory requirement to ensure the standard and useful life prediction of industrial specimens. NDT technology is also widely used in regular maintenance procedures and to assess the reliability and safety of structures subjected to heavy loads, high pressures and corrosion. Through RCA projects for the past several TC cycles, NDT is now firmly established in the everyday life of all member countries of the RCA region, providing an important technological tool for the advancement of the region's industrialization.

From 18-22 August 2014 in Hanoi, Viet Nam, the Final Project Review Meeting for RAS/1/013 (RCA), "Supporting Advanced Non-Destructive Examination for Enhanced Industrial Safety, Product Quality and Productivity", was held.  The Meeting reviewed the achievements of the project with reports from each Member State on the status of NDT within their country, as well as a discussion on determining specifics regarding the project workplan for RAS/1/020 (RCA), "Building Capacity for Applications of Advanced Non-Destructive Evaluation Technologies for Enhancing Industrial Productivity".

The following countries participated in this meeting: Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Viet Nam.

RAS/1/020 will commence its project activities in 2015.
