Board of Governors Concludes March Deliberations

After four days of deliberations the IAEA Board of Governors closed its meeting on 5 March 2015.

The 35-member body discussed the Agency's activities related to nuclear, radiation, transport and waste safety, including the 2015 Nuclear Safety Review ; the Agency's activities related to nuclear science, technology and applications, including the 2015 Nuclear Technology Review; and nuclear verification.

The application of safeguards in the Democratic People's Republic of Koreathe implementation of the NPT safeguards agreement and relevant provisions of UN Security Council resolutions in the Islamic Republic of Iran; and the implementation of the NPT safeguards agreement in the Syrian Arab Republic were also considered and discussed.

In the area of technical cooperation, the Board also approved a new project aimed at strengthening Africa’s regional capacity for the diagnosis of emerging or re-emerging zoonotic diseases, including for the early and rapid diagnosis of  the Ebola virus diseases, and establishing early warning systems.

The Board also recommended for approval by the General Conference the application for membership by the Republic of Turkmenistan.
