Ms Ravesa Lleshi, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Albania to the International Organisations in Vienna, and Mr Dazhu Yang, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, signed Albania’s Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2018–2023 on 12 December 2017. A CPF is the frame of reference for the medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA and identifies priority areas where the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed to support national development goals.

Albania has been an IAEA Member State since 1957. Its 2018–2023 CPF identifies 5 priority areas:

  1. Human health, including nuclear medicine, radiotherapy, medical imaging, medical physics, and nutrition;
  2. Natural resources, exploration and exploitation;
  3. Environment protection and conservation;
  4. Food production and agriculture; and
  5. Radiation protection, safety and security.
