A Path Towards Enhanced Cooperation Between Bahrain and IAEA

Delegates from Bahrain meet with IAEA staff at the IAEA's Vienna Headquarters.

A high-level meeting with the Official Delegation of Bahrain has taken place from 18 to 20 May at the IAEA’s Vienna Headquarters, in the presence of Representatives from the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Supreme Council for Environment, the Ministry of Health, and the Bahrain Defence Force.The three day meeting provided a platform for discussions on establishing legislation to specifically address radiation safety and emergency preparedness and response, as well as nuclear applications in the fields of human health, food and agriculture, and water resource management.

The meeting explored opportunities for cooperation between the IAEA and Bahrain, particularly in the areas of capacity-building and the procurement of analytical services through the Agency’s various programmes and initiatives. The meeting also established milestones for the establishment of both sound nuclear legislation and a safe and secure radiation safety infrastructure, to ensure the safe application of nuclear and radioactive components throughout Bahrain

At the Nuclear and Science Application Laboratories in Seibersdorf, the delegation was given a comprehensive tour of the premises. This provided the delegates with a detailed overview of the broad scope of research activities and technologies which the laboratory can provide in support of Bahrain and its developmental goals.

The meeting provided the Agency’s Bahraini counterparts with an in-depth overview of the IAEA’s expertise in the field of nuclear techniques, and identified a path towards valuable and beneficial cooperation between the IAEA and Bahrain.

At the Nuclear and Science Application Laboratories in Seibersdorf, the delegation was given a comprehensive tour of the premises.
