IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano delivered a statement to mark World Cancer Day. This year's theme - "Not Beyond Us" - provides a key opportunity to improve general knowledge about cancer. In his statement, the Director General said that “there is certainly good reason to hope that fighting cancer is not beyond us.” He also stressed that “the sad reality is that many developing countries lack the facilities, as well as the highly trained medical and technical personnel, to respond promptly and effectively to cancer.” The IAEA works with its Member States to improve access to radiotherapy and nuclear medicine and strengthen national cancer control programmes.
