International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Energy in the 21st Century, Beijing, 20-22 April 2009

The head of the Department of Nuclear Energy, Deputy Director General Yury Sokolov; Hans Forsstroem, Director of the Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology; and Ian Facer, Scientific Secretary to the International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Energy in the 21st Century, will be available to brief journalists, Tuesday, 14 April 2009, at 14:00 in Room C0453 in the IAEA Headquarters, Wagramer Str. 5, Vienna.

Thirty energy ministers and the representatives of over 65 countries will convene in Beijing On 20 April 2009, to discuss the current status and future prospects for nuclear power. IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei and OECD Secretary General Angel Guria will also attend. Ministers and government representatives will assess the future role of nuclear energy in meeting the world´s energy needs and present their views on the current and future role of nuclear power in the context of national energy strategies.
