International Symposium on Understanding the Double Burden of Malnutrition for Effective Interventions - Contest

10–13 December 2018, Vienna, Austria

Symposium on Understanding the Double Burden of Malnutrition 2018

How would you solve the Double Burden of Malnutrition? Tell us and Win!

The video competition to the Symposium with the theme If you had a chance, how would you tackle the double burden of malnutrition using a science-based approach?” is now closed! A big thanks to all participants for taking the time to think about the issue, developing their messages and producing the videos.

Watch the winning video created by Daniela Garza, Lorena Lee and Viviana Torres, students from the University of Monterey in Mexico. It highlights the importance of working across sectors and disciplines to create stronger public policies for tackling the double burden of malnutrition.

                                              ---------------------------------

The double burden of malnutrition (DBM) is a global issue that affects at least a quarter of all countries around the world. It connotes a complex situation where food insecurity, micronutrient deficiencies, undernutrition and infectious diseases, as well as overweight, obesity and related non-communicable diseases (NCDs) coexist in countries, communities and households - and even in the same individual. Nuclear and isotopic techniques can be used to understand the double burden of malnutrition better.

The International Symposium on Understanding the Double Burden of Malnutrition for Effective Interventions will take place from 10 to 13 December 2018 at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna, Austria. A broad range of stakeholders including UN organisations, policy makers, researchers, health professionals, NGOs and civil society from different areas will gather to discuss actions to tackle the double burden of malnutrition. But we want to know: If you had a chance, how would you tackle the double burden of malnutrition using a science-based approach?

That’s right! The IAEA wants to hear your most innovative ideas. Whether you’re a student, a health professional or just take an interest in nutrition and want to help make the world a better place, we encourage you to share your thoughts. Don’t be afraid to get creative.

The IAEA invites you to record your idea in a short video clip up to 45-seconds in length and email it to DBMal-2018.Contact-Point@iaea.org no later than Friday, November 30th, 2018. Nutrition specialists from the IAEA Division of Human Health will review all entries and pick the most innovative idea as the winner.

What’s in it for you? The winner will receive a full ‘International Symposium on Understanding the Double Burden of Malnutrition for Effective Interventions’ care package, including a stamped cotton bag, a notepad, a water bottle and lanyards courtesy of the IAEA. But even better: the winning video will be shown at the symposium’s closing session, to an audience which will include many of the world’s top experts, influencers and decision makers in the field of nutrition and health. The owner of the winning entry will be notified via email (by December 7th).

Are you up for the challenge? Good luck!

The symposium will be livestreamed and recordings made available, so that audiences outside of Vienna can follow the presentations and discussions.
