Technical Meeting/Training Course on Funding and Economic Aspects of a New Nuclear Power Programme

The decision to embark on a national nuclear power programme should be based upon a well-defined and knowledgeable national position, founded, among other considerations, on sound energy planning. 

The main purpose of this training course is to provide participants from embarking and expanding countries with a full view of the costs and benefits of a nuclear power programme and with the the fundamentals of nuclear economics to help countries in building a national position.

The course programme addresses the following topics:

  • Macroeconomics of a nuclear power project: programme, externalities, convergence of interests, and elements to support decision making;
  • The industrial project in space and time: planning and local dimensions;
  • The nuclear infrastructure for nuclear power in the economics of the project; and
  • Model and tools for funding and financing.

The Training Course is hosted by the Government of France through the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA). It is open to participants from Member States that are considering, planning or implementing a nuclear power programme for the first time and from Member States considering or expanding their nuclear power capacity. Participants should come from government departments or Nuclear Energy Programme Implementing Organizations (NEPIOs) in direct contact with decision makers in the Government, who are looking for tools and knowledge to build a compelling case for their nuclear power programme.
