Technical Meeting on International Experiences in the Conditioning of Category 3–5 Disused Sealed Radioactive Sources

26 – 30 Aug 2024
Vienna, Austria
Event code: EVT2302455

Sealed radioactive sources (SRSs) are used extensively in industry, medicine, agriculture, and various research areas. A radioactive source that is no longer in use, or not intended to be used, for the practice for which an authorization has been granted, is deemed as disused.

The IAEA is drafting a technical document (under the Nuclear Energy Series) to provide guidance on the proper management of DSRS, with focus on the dismantling of nuclear gauges and devices and conditioning of the recovered radioactive sources. In connection with this, the IAEA is organizing a Technical Meeting on National and International Experiences in the conditioning of Category 3-5 Disused Sealed Radioactive Sources to be held at the IAEA Headquarters, Vienna, Austria and virtually via Cisco Webex.

The Technical Meeting will review and discuss national and international experiences in management of DSRS, with focus on the dismantling of category 3-5 nuclear gauges and devices and the conditioning of the recovered radioactive sources.

A limited number of grants are available to support the attendance of selected participants provided that, in the IAEA’s view, the participant will make an important contribution to the event. There is no registration fee.

In order to be designated by an IAEA Member State or invited organization, participants are requested to submit their application via the InTouch+ platform by 31 May 2024.

In addition to the registration through the InTouch+ platform, participants who wish to give presentations are requested to submit an abstract of their work. The abstract should be sent together with the Form for Submission of a Paper (Form B), to the competent national authority (e.g. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Mission to the IAEA or National Atomic Energy Authority) or organization for onward transmission to the IAEA not later than 31 May 2024.
