Technical Meeting on Knowledge Management for Decommissioning

11 – 15 Sep 2023
Ispra, Italy
Event code: EVT2205151

In collaboration with European Commission Joint Research Centre (EC-JRC), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is organizing a Technical Meeting on Knowledge Management for Decommissioning at Ispra, Italy, from 11 to 15 September 2023. The meeting will be hosted by the EC-JRC, with an option for virtual participation, via Microsoft Teams, also being provided.

The purpose of the event is to discuss good practices in knowledge management to support the decommissioning of nuclear facilities. Interoperability of knowledge systems for decommissioning will be promoted by sharing a proposed standard taxonomy, based on simple knowledge organization system principles, recently developed jointly by the IAEA, the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD/NEA) and EC-JRC. Specific topics to be covered at the event include:

  • Current approaches to organization of knowledge to support the planning and implementation of decommissioning projects.
  • The emerging role of digital technologies in facilitating data management for decommissioning.
  • Facilitating improved access to experience gained from ongoing decommissioning projects.

In addition to discussions on current good practice in decommissioning programmes, the meeting will include discussion on the current status and future evolution of relevant knowledge management systems being maintained by IAEA and the EC-JRC, including the IAEA’s Nuclear Wiki and associated online databases containing decommissioning-relevant information, together with the knowledge centre under development by the EC-JRC.

The deadline for submission of nominations for this event, via the competent national authorities, is 21 July 2023.
