Workshop on the Use of International Generic Ageing Lessons Learned (IGALL) in Preparation for Long Term Operation

Background Information

According to SSR-2/2 the operating organization of a nuclear power plant (NPP) should “ensure that an effective ageing management programme is implemented to ensure that required safety functions of systems, structures and components are fulfilled over the entire operating lifetime of the plant General recommendations on methodology, key elements and implementation of effective ageing management programmes (AMPs) for SSCs important to the safety of NPPs are provided in the Specific Safety Guide SSG-48”.

Member States agreed, in 2010, to launch an extrabudgetary programme known as the International Generic Ageing Lessons Learned (IGALL) Programme. The IGALL Programme’s objective is to develop a general framework for effectively collecting experience and lessons learned on ageing management. IGALL resulted in the development of an IAEA publication entitled Ageing Management for Nuclear Power Plants: International Generic Ageing Lessons Learned (IGALL) (Safety Reports Series No. 82, IAEA, Vienna, 2015) which, for SSCs important to safety, provide generic sample of ageing management review tables, AMPs and time-limited ageing analyses (TLAAs).

After Technical Meeting in December 2019, Member States agreed to develop and implement workshop/training for NPPs and regulatory authorities on IGALL use.
The training covers:

• the relevant IAEA standards;
• the IGALL objectives, organization, structure and deliverables;
• Use of IGALL for development of Ageing Management Review (AMR), Ageing Management Programs (AMPs), plant level AMP and revalidation of Time Limited Ageing Analysis (TLAA);
• Use of IGALL in support of preparation for OSA

Objectives

The purpose of the event is to train experts from nuclear power plants and technical support organizations in the use of IGALL project tools and related databases in support of ageing management and long term operation.

Target Audience

Experts from NPPs, TSOs or nuclear safety authorities of the Member States.

Participation

Nominations of the experts, who have at least 5 years of experience in nuclear safety, out of which at least 2 years spent in positions related to ageing management and/or long term operation, will be accepted.

In order to be designated by an IAEA Member State, participants are requested to send the Participation Form (Form A) to their competent national authority (e.g. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Mission to the IAEA or National Atomic Energy Authority) for onward transmission to the IAEA by 14 October 2022.  Selected participants will be informed in due course on the procedures to be followed with regard to administrative and technical matters.
