International Workshop on Emergency Consequence Management
Training conducted daily from 15:00 to 19:00 CEST (13:00 - 17:00 UTC)
The purpose of this International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) event is to present best practices on national arrangements for monitoring, sampling, and assessment during a nuclear or radiological emergency. It is recognized among organizations responsible for emergency management (including those responsible for the management of conventional emergencies) that good preparedness in advance of an emergency can substantially improve the emergency response. Moreover, one of the most important features of the preparations is that they are integrated among the different bodies involved, ensuring clear lines of responsibility and authority. This workshop will provide an update on the latest international guidance and standards for responders from various disciplines involved in theresponse to a radiation emergency.
The workshop consists of lectures, working sessions, demonstrations, and virtual exercises. By the end of the course, the participants will understand the following topics:
- Radiological emergency planning
- Radiological emergency scenarios
- Monitoring and sampling
- Instrumentation for monitoring and sampling
- Sample collection methods
- Aerial measurements
- Response and assistance network (RANET)
- International response criteria
- International emergency notification and communication
- Public communications in radiation emergencies
