The September 2000 IAEA Bulletin edition focuses on radioactive waste management. It covers the efforts made to develop internationally acceptable solutions for safe waste management, both technically and legally. The IAEA plays a central role in this undertaking, with different cooperation programmes, and by setting and updating safety standards. Protecting humans and the environment is the biggest challenge when transporting, storing, or disposing of radioactive waste, and decommissioning nuclear facilities.
