Nuclear Data Section

Reliable nuclear data are essential ingredients for the design and operation of nuclear power plants and other nuclear technology applications. The Nuclear Data Section provides fundamental nuclear data for energy and non-energy applications, as well as data for atomic, molecular and plasma-material interaction processes for fusion and other plasma applications.

There are two main classes of fundamental nuclear data, concerned with nuclear structure and decay, and with nuclear reactions. The Nuclear Data Section is responsible for providing accurate and reliable nuclear data for energy and non-energy applications. It assembles, evaluates and recommends specific nuclear data and maintains a number of databases and associated search infrastructure.

The IAEA also provides atomic, molecular and plasma-material interaction data for applications in fusion energy research and technology. Atomic processes are critical for plasma diagnostics in fusion devices and for the energy transport in the plasma. The Section develops, evaluates and disseminates this class of fundamental data.
