Description

One of the outcomes of the first IAEA Conference on NORM - NORM2020 - was that a holistic framework needs to be in place if a sustainable and effective approach to manage NORM is to be implemented in Member States. Dealing with the different aspects related to NORM in isolation will not produce these results since different aspects are intrinsically interconnected. The ENVIRONET NORM Project is proposing a framework that is intended to deal with aspects such as policy, strategy, regulations, inventory, valorization of residues (in the scope of the circular economy), disposal of NORM waste, characterization of residues, decommissioning of facilities and site remediation and communication in an integrated way. A workshop sponsored by the IAEA Technical Cooperation Program in Brazil attempted to review the Member State Infrastructure do deal with NORM vis-à-vis the above topics and provide the Member States with a road-map that would allow the country to implement such approach. The workshop raised valuable perspectives that will be shared with the international community in this webinar that will in fact be a panel that will summarize the main findings of the workshop and have the international experts that supported the event addressing the relevant aspects in their respective areas of expertise.
