This event will highlight the progress of the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, as well as the progress of the reconstruction of affected areas in Fukushima. This event is organized by Japan.

This event will showcase an innovative small modular reactor (SMR) demonstration project using the system-integrated modular advanced reactor (SMART), which is set to transform our energy landscape. In collaboration with participants from multiple countries across North America, the Middle East, Asia and beyond, SMART’s potential in creating a clean and sustainable energy future will be explored. SMART’s diverse applications, including hydrogen production and oil sand processing, underscore its pivotal role in advancing the low carbon economy. Together with our partners, we aim to expedite progress towards global net zero targets. This event is organized by the Republic of Korea.

In the Islamic Republic of Iran, cancer is the third leading cause of death. In 2018, about 110 000 cancer cases were reported, resulting in the loss of about 56 000 lives. To enhance the country’s effective clinical utilization of new generation theranostic radiopharmaceuticals at the national level, ongoing efforts focus on strengthening capacity in the areas of research and development as well as production and quality control of new generation theranostic radiopharmaceuticals, such as PET-based radiopharmaceuticals, and therapeutic peptide-based radiopharmaceuticals through different national/international projects. This event is organized by the Islamic Republic of Iran

The purpose of the event, organized by Italy, is to illustrate the historical evolution of nuclear forensics and to provide an overview of its progress along the revolutionary lines of the industry 4.0 concept. The status of nuclear forensics, the use of the most advanced deployable technologies and future perspectives will be discussed. In addition, the event will feature international experts in radiological crime scene management, training, nuclear forensic interpretation, and national nuclear forensic library creation and interrogation. This event is organized by Italy.

This event will introduce the IAEA Nuclear Energy Management Schools and will share some future activities. It will be of interest both to Member States interested in hosting an NEM School, as well as to potential participants in future NEM Schools.

The International Physical Protection Advisory Service (IPPAS), which was offered for the first time by the IAEA in 1996, provides peer advice on implementing international instruments and IAEA guidance on the protection of nuclear and other radioactive material, and on associated facilities and activities.

This event will commemorate the significant milestone of 100 IPPAS missions. The 100th IPPAS mission is expected to be conducted by the end of the 2023.

At this event organized by France, three nuclear regulatory authorities (the Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN, France), the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK, Finland) and the State Office for Nuclear Safety (SÚJB, Czech Republic)) will share their experience and feedback on the joint review they conducted on the safety options for the NUWARD small modular reactor (SMR) design at an early stage of its development. The work focused on SMR-related topics most relevant to safety. NUWARD’s representative will also share their views on the initiative. This event is organized by France.

During this event, IAEA Recruitment Officers will provide a high-level overview of the IAEA's recruitment process and existing talent outreach tools, such as recruitment missions and pipelines, aimed to find qualified and diverse professional across Member States.

Additionally, MTHR will share with Member States information about the different contract modalities that the IAEA offers, with particular focus on the cooperation with Member States on the Cost-Free Experts and the Junior Professional Programmes.

Since its launch in May 2021, the Nuclear Technology for Controlling Plastic Pollution (NUTEC Plastics) initiative has made progress in addressing plastic pollution on two fronts: at point of source, by introducing new technologies to improve plastic recycling; and in the ocean, where the bulk of plastic waste ends up. This event will show some graphical representations of the progress to date, the initiative’s prospects and the direction it is moving in.

This event will present the experience and practices of the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom”, from participation in international cooperation programs for bringing nuclear legacy sites into a safe condition to the activity of the TVEL Fuel Company as the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries’ base organization for spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste management and decommissioning. 
 
The event will draw attention to nuclear legacy site issues and will present developments and experiences in the field of decommissioning and the remediation of legacy sites. This event is organized by the Russian Federation.
