IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano today met with the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Nikki Haley, at U.N. headquarters in New York. They discussed the IAEA’s verification and monitoring of Iran’s implementation of its nuclear-related commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Director General Amano said that the JCPOA represents a significant gain for nuclear verification and that the nuclear-related commitments undertaken by Iran under the agreement are being implemented. He briefed Ambassador Haley on the IAEA’s strong and effective safeguards activities in Iran.
Iran is now subject to the world’s most robust nuclear verification regime, and the IAEA has so far had access to all the locations it needed to visit in the country. IAEA inspectors will continue to carry out their work in an impartial and factual manner.
Director General Amano also stressed during his 29 October visit to Tehran the importance of full implementation by Iran of its nuclear-related JCPOA commitments.
He is visiting the United States for meetings and speeches in Washington, New York and Boston, including his annual address to the United Nations General Assembly on Friday.
