Interested experts have until 31 May 2019 to submit synopses of technical and interactive presentations, papers and posters for the third IAEA ministerial-level International Conference on Nuclear Security, to be held in Vienna next year.
The conference, held under the theme of Sustaining and Strengthening Efforts, will take place from 10 to 14 February 2020. It will include a ministerial segment during which ministers and other high-level representatives are expected to adopt a Ministerial Declaration and deliver national statements on efforts to strengthen nuclear security in their countries. This will be complemented by a scientific and technical programme that comprises high-level policy discussions on nuclear security themes and technical sessions on scientific, technical, legal and regulatory aspects of nuclear security.
Government ministers, senior officials and high-level staff from agencies involved in nuclear security policy making and management are invited to take part in the conference, as are technical and legal experts working in all areas of nuclear security. Industry, civil society and academic institution representatives also are invited to participate.
“The Conference will influence nuclear security work internationally, including that conducted by the Agency,” said IAEA Deputy Director General Juan Carlos Lentijo, Head of the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security. “We look forward to broad and active participation by government ministers and other key stakeholders involved in the security of nuclear and other radioactive material, associated facilities and activities.”
Experts are invited to submit synopses for presentations, papers and posters for the technical sessions, which will focus on three areas:
- physical protection of nuclear and other radioactive material and facilities,
- nuclear and other radioactive material out of regulatory control and
- cross-cutting topics within nuclear security.
