Potential partners can again express their interest to contribute equipment to the IAEA for the enhancement of its nuclear applications laboratories in Seibersdorf, Austria. The list of equipment sought was recently published on the United Nations Global Marketplace (UNGM) portal.
The initiative, the second this year, calls for the contribution or a free loan to support the IAEA’s efforts to modernize its nuclear applications laboratories through new partnerships in order to meet the evolving needs of Member States in the use of nuclear techniques in food and agriculture, human health, the environment and nuclear instrumentation. The work of the laboratories supports countries’ progress towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and improving the quality of life of their populations, using nuclear science and technology.
Potential partners have until 20 November to express their interest to provide equipment.

The UNGM is a platform to bring together UN procurement staff and the vendor community. Based on the list of equipment published by the IAEA in March, four loans and contributions are currently under discussion between the Agency and potential partners.
The IAEA is looking to obtain a wide variety of equipment for its nuclear applications laboratories, such as a pathogen testing facility for plant breeding and genetics research and a broad energy gamma detector for measuring radionuclides for soil erosion assessment and nuclear emergency response in food and agriculture.
The UNGM portal can be accessed here. It is not an IAEA requirement for suppliers to register with or submit their interest through the UNGM portal.
