The Division of Nuclear Security and the Incident and Emergency Centre organize a joint webinar on Capacity Building: Key Elements (Arabic)
Background
The International Atomic Energy Agency supports Member States in building capacities in safe, secure, and peaceful use of nuclear applications and technologies for sustainable socioeconomic development. IAEA’s Safety Standards and Nuclear Security Guidance Publications describe the fundamental principles, requirements and recommendations that are needed to protect staff and the environment from the detrimental effects of radiation. The sustainability and effectiveness of a national infrastructure are reliant on the availability of a competent workforce that has acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through appropriate education and training. This pool of competent staff provides the necessary human resources that are needed by regulatory authorities, operators and service providers. Retaining and sharing knowledge also provides for the development of national skills, capabilities, actions and resources, especially human resources.
The key elements of Capacity Building are education and training, human resources development, knowledge management and knowledge networking. The principles of Capacity Building apply to all fields of peaceful uses of nuclear technologies, including those related to health and nutrition, agriculture, water and the environment, and research, among others.
The IAEA’s Division of Nuclear Security and the Incident and Emergency Centre will hold a webinar to discuss the IAEA methodology for Capacity Building in both nuclear security and emergency preparedness and response, and share with participants the IAEA activities that support Capacity Building in these areas.

The objectives of the Webinar are:
