In November 2015, the Safety Requirements publication Preparedness and Response for a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency, IAEA Safety Standards Series No. GSR Part 7, was published in a joint sponsorship of 13 international intergovernmental organizations. This publication establishes the requirements for ensuring an adequate level of preparedness and response for a nuclear or radiological emergency, irrespective of the initiator of the event.
According to requirement 23 of GSR Part 7 “The government shall ensure that plans and procedures necessary for effective response to a nuclear or radiological emergency are established.” The National Radiation Emergency Plan (NREP) is a general description of the possible emergencies and concept of operations for responding to each type of emergency. The NREP is a summary of the more detailed response plans and ensures that all the other planning is integrated and compatible.
The aim of this webinar is to encourage Member States to facilitate the long-term goal of drafting, completing and implementing the national plan.
