Syrian Arab Republic Signs a Country Programme Framework (CPF) for 2020–2025

Ibrahim Othman, Director General, Atomic Energy Commission of Syria, and Dazhu Yang, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, signed the Syrian Arab Republic’s Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2020–2025 on 19 September 2019. A CPF is the frame of reference for the medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA and identifies priority areas where the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed to support national development goals.

The Syrian Arab Republic has been an IAEA Member State since 1963. Its 2020–2025 CPF identifies nine priority areas:

  1. Legal framework
  2. Nuclear and radiation safety and security
  3. Energy planning
  4. Radiation technology and industrial applications
  5. Nuclear knowledge development and management
  6. Water recourse management
  7. Food and agriculture
  8. Health and nutrition
  9. Quality control laboratories
