First Joint IAEA–GIF Workshop on Operational and Safety Aspects of Sodium Cooled Fast Reactors

23 – 25 Jun 2010
Vienna, Austria

The scope of this first Joint Workshop between the IAEA and the Generation IV International Forum (GIF) covers various national Sodium Cooled Fast Reactor (SFR) operational and safety approaches.

The main objective of the meeting is to provide a forum for national experts to present the rationale introduced in the designs of the current and future fast reactors based on the operational and safety experience accumulated up to now. Since IAEA Member States with previous SFR experience and/or with current SFR development programs are following different paths for achieving similar operational and safety goals, participants will present national analytical, scientific and operational based rationales introduced in, and safety criteria applied to the designs of SFR, as well as respective approaches for improvements.

Pesentations will be based on analyses, experiments, licensing experience and safety-related operational and construction experiences. They will cover methods (codes and data) development, validation and qualification programs, and will address also descriptions of experimental facilities (in operation and planned) related to SFR safety research and technology development, as well as programs implemented and results obtained at these facilities.
