Cambodia Signs its Second Country Programme Framework (CPF) for 2017-2023

Mr Tun Lean, Under Secretary of State, Ministry of Mines and Energy of Cambodia and Head of the Delegation of Cambodia to the 61st IAEA General Conference and Mr Dazhu Yang, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, met on 19 September 2017 to finalize the signing of Cambodia’s Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2017-2023. The CPF, already signed by Mr Suy Sem, Minister of Mines and Energy of Cambodia, was signed by Mr Yang for the Department of Technical Cooperation. A CPF is the frame of reference for the medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA and identifies priority areas where the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed to support national development goals.

Cambodia has been an IAEA Member State since 2009. Its 2017–2023 CPF identifies 8 priority areas:

  • Radiation and nuclear safety (legal and regulatory framework)
  • Human health
  • Agriculture, livestock production and food safety
  • Water resources management
  • Energy planning
  • Environmental protection and radioactive waste management
  • Industry applications
  • Cultural heritage preservation
