World Cancer Day is a global celebration taking place every year on 4 February. It is an opportunity to remember the increasing number of cancer cases around the world and to strengthen the global fight against this disease.
The event aims to raise awareness and education about the disease, pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action. The international organizations are joining the event in order to spread the word and raise the profile of cancer in people’s minds and in the world’s media.
The IAEA has also participated in the worldwide event with a theme “We Can. I can”. As a high-level profile activity, the IAEA organized a panel discussion where Princess Dina Mired of Jordan, First Lady Kim Simplis Barrow of Belize, and Amadou Diarra of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) shared their perspectives on this issue.
Ahead of World Cancer Day, the IAEA and the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) signed an agreement to train health professionals and boost cancer control efforts in low- and middle- income countries.
The IAEA has also launched a video discussing the access to the cancer care.
