Chad signed its First Country Programme Framework (CPF)

Chad CPF signing ceremony

On 22 October 2010, the first Country Programme Framework (CPF) of Chad was signed in Vienna by H.E. Dr. Eugène TABE, Minister for Petrol and Energy, Chad and Ms Ana Maria Cetto, Deputy Director General, Head of the IAEA Department of Technical Cooperation. During the signing ceremony, Ms Cetto was represented by the acting DDG Mr Casas-Zamora. The document establishes a framework for both the Government of Chad and the IAEA to direct efforts to foster the application of nuclear science and technology to support national development goals.

The CPF identifies the planning opportunities for the development of sound projects and the implementation of priority activities under the IAEA Technical Cooperation Programme for the period 2010-2015 and focuses on strengthening the following areas, which are of high priority to the Government and where the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology available through the Agency can make a significant contribution:

1. National radiation protection infrastructure.
2. Crop production and productivity.
3. Development of livestock productivity and disease control.
4. Human health (introduction of radiotherapy, and improving nutrition status of infants).
5. Water resources management.
6. Sustainable energy development.

The CPF of Chad results from a close and intense interaction between the IAEA and the national competent authorities. Decision-makers and high level professionals from the different socio-economic sectors participated in the development of the CPF, which involved work at both the policy and operational levels. The document has been developed in line with the Poverty Reduction Strategic Paper (PRSP) and the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF).

Chad has been a member of IAEA since 2005.
