Since 1996, the IAEA’s International Physical Protection Advisory Service (IPPAS) has been helping states to identify ways to strengthen the protection of nuclear materials and facilities.
At the request of a state, the IAEA assembles a team of international experts to assess the State’s physical protection system, compare it with international best practices and make recommendations for improvements.
The IPPAS mission can be conducted on a nation-wide or facility-specific basis. More than 50 IPPAS missions to 37 countries have already been carried out in States in all regions of the world.
