IAEA Regional Model Project RAF/8/029: Sustainable Development of Groundwater Resources in Southern and Eastern Africa

Africa1

The IAEA Regional Model Project RAF/8/029 integrates environmental isotope techniques with ongoing national water resource assessment and management programs. The project consists of parallel national projects in seven nations: Kenya, Madagascar, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

The project is improving regional analytical facilities, sponsoring regional training courses and workshops, and helping develop regional coordination mechanisms linking national water authorities and the IAEA Technical Cooperation (TC) program with bi/multi-lateral implementing agencies active in the water sector.

This coordination will help leverage national and international activities by ensuring an appropriate mix of local involvement, technical inputs, and investment to develop and manage water supplies in the region in a sustainable fashion. Browse this site for more information on the project and other applications of isotope hydrology.
