The second International Conference on Advances in Radiation Oncology (ICARO-2) will be held in Vienna from 20 to 23 June 2017. Over 500 health professionals, including oncologists, physicists, medical technicians and biomedical engineers from 96 countries will gather to discuss current and future developments in the fields of radiotherapy, radiation biology and medical physics.
The conference will look at the evolving role of radiotherapy in meeting an increasing global cancer burden. Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and radiotherapy is an essential and cost-effective form of treatment for many cancer types.
Topics to be discussed include personalized radiation medicine, recent developments and future trends in diagnostic medicine and radiotherapy, quality assurance methods and tools, and health care economics. The conference will feature lectures by internationally-recognised specialists and practical demonstrations, such as workshops on contouring – a procedure that allows oncologists to define the tumour in the organ to be treated with radiation in order to spare healthy tissue.
The conference will take place in Boardroom Room B, 1st floor, M Building, in the Vienna International Centre.
The event is open to media.
