Interested participants have until May 28 to submit a synopsis to present at the IAEA International Conference on Effective Nuclear and Radiation Regulatory Systems, to be held in the Hague, the Netherlands, from 4 to 7 November 2019.

“Robust, independent and effective regulatory systems underpin nuclear safety and security,” said Gustavo Caruso, Director of the IAEA Office of Safety and Security Coordination. “This conference is part of the Agency’s efforts to enable Member States to learn from each other as they work to fulfil their national responsibility for nuclear safety and security.”

The Conference, subtitled Working Together to Enhance Cooperation, aims to enhance international cooperation and experience sharing among regulators to strengthen nuclear safety and security. Hosted by the Government of the Netherlands, it is organized by the IAEA in cooperation with the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre.

The Conference agenda includes sessions on regulating nuclear installations, radiation sources and medical facilities as well as cross-cutting areas that affect the regulation of both nuclear installation and radiation facilities. Other topics are leadership and management for safety and security, international cooperation and emergency preparedness and response.

Experts are invited to submit concise papers on all conference topics to present during conference sessions or during a technical poster session.

“Good papers are important to add context and direction to the discussions,” said Conference President Carl-Magnus Larsson, Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency. “They will contribute to the Conference’s ambition to identify strategies and actions that will strengthen nuclear and radiation regulatory systems through international collaboration” .

The Conference is the fifth in a series of IAEA conferences on effective nuclear and radiation regulatory systems. Earlier conferences were held 2016 in Vienna, Austria; 2013 in Ottawa, Canada; 2009 in Cape Town, South Africa and in 2006 in Moscow, the Russian Federation.

Guidelines for the submission of papers are available on the Conference website.
