The IAEA provides technical cooperation support to 31 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean region.
Latin America and the Caribbean
This includes national, regional and interregional projects that address the strategic priorities of the region, with such thematic priorities as safety; health and nutrition; food and agriculture; food security; nuclear knowledge development and management; water and the environment; energy; and radiation technology. The projects address the strategic priorities of the region, including those proposed by the Regional Cooperation Agreement for the Promotion of Nuclear Science and Technology in Latin America and the Caribbean (ARCAL).
The Agency’s regional technical cooperation programme in Latin America and the Caribbean is designed in close consultations with Member States and based on regional agreements between the IAEA and groups of Member States of the region. It aims to foster strong regional cooperation and has the objective to enhance capacities in the region to strengthen existing regional resource centres, as well as to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, expertise, products and services.
